Trimble Survey Controller v12.46- Job Linking

You may already know this?

Be aware particularly with job files containing GPS site calibrations that when you are linking a job file into another that both files are working on the same site calibration.

What could go wrong?

If you are setting out points from a linked file with a different calibration file to the current job the software will apply both calibrations to its calculations. But if you are measuring pnts the current job calibration will only apply.

In what case could this happen?

Case1 : A surveyor may have 2 sites in close proximity with seperate calibration files. The 2 sites may have a common meeting point and the surveyor may need to use data from the other job file at this point. Linking the 2 files could be a solution.

Case2: Relocation of Base station and new site calibration recorded. The surveyor may want ot reference information from previous job files.

Solution:

Do not link a job file that has been recorded with a different site calibration. Export the required data out of that job file following by importing using various other methods such as CSV file or DXF…

Has this impacted you before?

Stop Press - GPS Crash - 29/04/2010

Posted by Kym Hunter

This email received 30/04/2010 from CR Kennedy detailing errors and fix.

Dear Nathan Thompson,

Yesterday morning an incorrect GLONASS almanac was transmitted by the GLONASS satellites.
This caused some GPS1200 and GPS900 sensors to lose all satellite tracking if the GLONASS satellite tracking was configured.
The following sensors were affected: GX1200 GG, ATX1230 GG and ATX900 GG.
Units without a valid GLONASS option or where GLONASS is not activated are not affected.

GLONASS ground control centre has now corrected the almanac.
This means that from now on GLONASS tracking works fine without any problems on GX1220 GG, GX1230 GG, ATX1230 GG
and ATX900 GG with all current ME firmware versions (this was confirmed for Europe last night).
Other Leica sensors such as Leica Viva and GPS1200+ were not affected.

If your sensor is not still tracking it may still have the old almanac, this needs to be erased by resetting the sensor manually.

Resetting the sensor:
1200: 5 Config./2 Instrument Menu/2 Satellite Settings press  and .

900: 5 Config/2 Inst Config/2 Sat Config press and .

This will reset the sensor and GPS and GLONASS tracking will work as normal within 30 to 90 seconds.

If you experience any further problems please contact your local CR Kennedy office or call 03 9823 1533
to be forwarded direct to one of our technical support team.

We thank you for your patience.

kind regards,

GPS SATELITE DAILY PLANNER

Have a look at the most optimal time to be surveying in the field. There is high risk of not obtaining a fixed solution when the number of satellites are low and obstacles in the area blocking more satellites. Imagery provided courtesy of Trimble Planning.

Tarcutta Hume Alliance - GOOGLE EARTH

Thanks to Geoff  Smith for showing me this and those who sent this to Geoff in the first place.

If you have Google Earth installed and open on your PC you can download and double click the 2 files below and the THA Dual Highway (first file),  THA Dual Highway Chainage (second file).

These files will be placed in your Temporary Places Folder for Google Earth.

Move them to My Places folder and the data will be there everytime you open Google Earth.

12d Model version 9 C1d

12diconlong

The important news is that 12d Model version 9 C1d is released and downloadable.  This is a significant improvement over version 9 released a couple of months ago and so we recommend that everyone seriously considers downloading version 9 C1d and using it, shortly.

Just to wet your appetite; one new feature is the ability to contour a SUPERTIN with volume calculations between tins/supertins now available in this version.
